Today, the Pro Volleyball Federation announced a new addition to its league, beginning January 2024: the Atlanta Vibe volleyball team is here.
“In the vibrant heart of the south, a new wave of professional sports has emerged,” says the team’s announcement video. “You know our energy, strength, and passion. Now, it’s time for others to feel our vibe.” The announcement of the new team reflects the thousands of coaches, players, staff, and fans of volleyball who are excited that the sport has made its way to the South.
Head Coach Todd Dagenais is so excited to share his team with the city, and the unveiling of the team name and logo is just the start. Dagenais says that the team’s brand represents Atlanta’s music, people, food, and history. “We are at a crossroads in women’s sports. We need to help each other grow this professional league. We have an opportunity to share that same feeling of excitement we have about our sport with fans. I want to look back and say, ‘I helped start that.’” When asked how you encapsulate that feeling into its core, Dagenais’s answer is simple: “It’s a vibe.”
The vibes were immaculate during today’s announcement. There is a full of people who unabashedly have the same goal of providing a home for athletes to play on U.S. soil in front of their families. The interconnectedness of those in attendance is palpable, and fans should gravitate toward the team and the league. The best part of this new team is that they are from different places and backgrounds and exude leaning into their differences.
Tori Dilfer, a two-time All-American and one of the first players to join the team says, “We really want to represent the city well and serve the city well. We want to connect with the city the best (way we can). I think the Vibe represents this: ‘We know that we are here to do (and that’s win), but we also know we have an opportunity to create something special here.’”
For fans across the city, and especially children who look up to athletes, this team showcases rich talent with phenomenal backgrounds and skills. Under Dagenais’s leadership and the league’s support, they aim to become trailblazers and magnets for positive vibes.
The Atlanta Vibe make their debut next year at Gas South Arena in Duluth, Georgia, joining five other teams in their quest for greatness. Their new website (AtlantaVibe.com) will be available soon for more information on the team.
